FAQ: About our slings
As the name implies, the Lightly Padded ring sling has a shoulder style that is sewn in place and uses a very light layer of padding to add cushioning and comfort along the shoulder and upper back. The design ensures the shoulder is always spread neatly along a 6 inch strap. It can be slightly folded or gathered to the user’s preference, but it cannot be spread out or unfolded to get wider.
The Comfort Fit sling combines an innovative gathered-shoulder style with a cinching band for a customizable shoulder fit. Some wearers prefer a should that’s narrow, just a few inches wide, while others like to spread the shoulder over their upper arm and across the entire width of their back. The design of the Comfort Fit sling allows you to make this adjustment by changing the position of the cinching band.
Yes! Maya Wrap slings have always allowed parents to hold their baby in the optimal position for development. When babies are born, their bones have not all ossified — many of them are still cartilage that needs to develop and harden. Research shows that a spread-squat, seated “M” position to allow the hip socket to support the bones of the legs in the best possible way, and the naturally rounded position of the baby’s spine is just what nature ordered.
Both the Comfort Fit and Lightly Padded slings can be used to carry children from 8 pounds until 35 pounds. Some people prefer the Comfort Fit sling for larger, older babies because the fabric can be spread extra wide, but we also have customers who prefer the Lightly Padded sling. Both styles are suitable for the full weight range.
The US CPSC recommends that parents consult their child’s professional care team before carrying a baby under 8 pounds. Premature and smaller infants sometimes need extra care and your doctor or other provider can advise you about this.
When you buy a Maya Wrap sling, you are getting the assurance of a quarter century of expertise. Maya Wrap has been making quality baby slings for over 25 years. The carefully chosen fabric is lightweight and breathable, yet strong and durable. Maya Wrap only uses SlingRings brand rings, which are the safest, most thoroughly tested rings on the market.
Maya Wrap believes in making the safest ring slings possible, and Susan Gmeiner, the owner, was part of the team that created testing standards for sling carriers. In fact, Maya Wrap slings were tested for safety long before there was a standard, with careful attention to the safety of the dyes and strength of the fabric.
Best of all, each Maya Wrap is made with a pocket in the tail of the sling — a feature that parents love.
